The circulatory system is made up of veins, arteries and capillaries. Blood travels through the heart by means of arteries which are in charge of distributing oxygen to each one of the body’s tissues. Veins are in charge of returning the blood back to the heart. To insure the correct function of this process, the heart has valves on the inside which doesn’t allow the blood to go backwards, but encourages the flow upwards toward the heart.
Circulatory problems affect 1 out of every 2 people, mainly those who are 50 and older, and are more common in women than in men. When these problems present themselves in the rectum area, they manifest themselves as dilated veins, a common ailment. Exercise and weight loss can help prevent the circulatory problems from getting worse. Other factors that can also help are: elevating legs when resting and not crossing them while sitting, wearing loose-fitting clothes and avoid standing up for long periods of time. If the veins become painful or disagreeable to the eye you may use certain nutritional supplements that favor circulation.
